Sensibull Greeks Panel — Reading Your Position Dashboard

It is the tool through which the Greeks-based position management described in the options theory modules translates into practical, actionable daily monitoring. This topic covers how to read and interpret each element of the Sensibull Greeks Panel and how to use the Greeks information for position management decisions. "

Accessing the Sensibull Greeks Panel 

From Sensibull's main interface, click 'Positions' or 'Greeks Dashboard' in the top navigation. If your broker account is connected (Topic 10.5 Sensibull broker integration), the panel automatically loads all open F&O positions from the connected account and displays their combined Greeks in real-time. If the broker is not connected, positions can be manually entered in the Payoff Builder and the Greeks derived from there. 

The Greeks Panel has two views. Portfolio View: shows the aggregate delta, gamma, theta, and vega of all open positions combined -- the net risk profile of the entire options portfolio. Position-by-Position View: shows the individual Greeks for each open position, allowing identification of which positions are the dominant contributors to the portfolio's directional, time, or volatility risk. 

Reading Portfolio Delta - The Directional Exposure

The portfolio delta is the most immediately actionable Greek for position management. It measures the portfolio's total directional exposure to the underlying's price movement. A portfolio delta of +0.45 means the portfolio behaves like a position of 0.45 Nifty units -- for each 1-point rise in Nifty, the portfolio gains approximately Rs 0.45 per unit (multiplied by the lot size and number of lots for actual rupee impact). A portfolio delta of -0.30 means the portfolio benefits by Rs 0.30 per unit per point of Nifty decline. 

For options traders who want a balanced portfolio (no strong directional bias), the target portfolio delta is near zero. For traders with a bullish directional thesis, the portfolio delta should be positive -- and the magnitude of the delta reflects how aggressively the directional bet is sized. A portfolio with delta of +2.5 (across all open positions combined) is significantly more directionally aggressive than a portfolio with delta of +0.8. The Greeks Panel makes this aggregate directional exposure immediately visible. 

Portfolio Delta Reference

Near zero (+/- 0.2): Directionally neutral. Portfolio benefits from volatility expansion or time passing regardless of direction. Positive 0.2 to 0.5: Mildly bullish directional exposure. Positive 0.5 to 1.5: Moderate bullish exposure. Each 1-point Nifty rise adds approximately Rs [delta x lot size] to portfolio value. Above 1.5 positive: Aggressively bullish. Above 2.0 positive: Consider whether directional exposure is within the portfolio heat guideline from Topic 8.15. Same brackets apply for negative delta with bearish directional implications.

Reading Portfolio Theta - The Daily Time Decay 

Portfolio theta is the daily rupee cost or benefit of time passing. For net long options positions (more long options than short), theta is negative -- the portfolio loses a specific rupee amount each day simply from time passage, regardless of underlying movement. For net short options positions (more short options than long, such as an iron condor or a covered call), theta is positive -- the portfolio gains a specific rupee amount each day as time decays the sold options' value. 

Sensibull displays portfolio theta as a daily rupee figure. A theta of -Rs 450 means the portfolio loses Rs 450 in value for each day that passes without a significant market move. For a long call position with ten sessions until expiry and theta of -Rs 450 per day, the total expected theta cost over the holding period is approximately Rs 4,500 -- which must be recovered by the underlying's movement before the position becomes profitable. This theta awareness directly informs the theta stop decision from Topic 8.9: if the position has been held for five sessions and theta has extracted Rs 2,250 without meaningful directional progress, the theta stop threshold is approaching. 

Theta Accelerates Non-Linearly Near Expiry

The portfolio theta displayed in Sensibull increases in absolute value as expiry approaches, even if the underlying does not move. A long call with ten sessions to expiry might show theta of -Rs 300 per day. The same call with three sessions to expiry shows theta of -Rs 700 to -Rs 900 per day because gamma is highest near ATM and expiry, accelerating the rate of time value decay. This acceleration is why the theta stop from Topic 8.9 is calibrated to the proportion of premium lost (50 percent stop) rather than to a fixed rupee amount per day.

Reading Portfolio Vega - The Volatility Sensitivity 

Portfolio vega measures how the portfolio's value changes with a 1-point change in India VIX (or, more precisely, with a 1 percent change in implied volatility). Positive vega means the portfolio benefits from a VIX increase -- long options strategies (long calls, long puts, long straddles) have positive vega. Negative vega means the portfolio benefits from a VIX decline -- short options strategies (iron condors, covered calls, credit spreads) have negative vega. 

The vega risk is most relevant around event days (RBI, Budget, FOMC) where VIX can move 20 to 50 percent in either direction over a single session. A portfolio with large positive vega heading into an event (a large straddle position) will benefit from the pre-event VIX expansion but suffer from the post-event IV crush. A portfolio with large negative vega heading into an event (a large iron condor) benefits from post-event IV crush but suffers if VIX spikes unexpectedly during the event day. The Greeks Panel makes the vega exposure visible, allowing pre-event position size adjustment (Topic 8.16) to be calibrated to the specific vega at risk. 

Reading Portfolio Gamma - The Second-Order Risk 

Portfolio gamma measures how quickly the portfolio's delta changes with underlying movement. High positive gamma means the portfolio's directional exposure increases as the underlying moves favourably -- a beneficial characteristic for long options positions (the more the underlying moves in your direction, the more exposure you have). High negative gamma means the portfolio's directional exposure moves against you as the underlying moves -- a risk characteristic of short options positions (the more Nifty moves in either direction, the larger the loss from the short options). 

For options buyers, gamma is typically not the primary daily management concern -- it works in your favour on winning positions. For options sellers (iron condor or credit spread positions), high negative gamma is the primary intraday risk: large underlying moves can rapidly increase the position's loss beyond what the static risk analysis suggested. The Sensibull Greeks Panel's gamma display immediately flags when a short-options portfolio has accumulated large negative gamma -- typically when the underlying has moved close to one of the short strikes of a condor or spread. 

The Greeks are not numbers for academic curiosity. Delta tells you your directional bet. Theta tells you your daily holding cost. Vega tells you your VIX exposure. Gamma tells you how all of these change as the market moves. Reading all four together in the Greeks Panel tells you exactly what position you are in -- not what you intended when you entered, but what the market has made it into as underlying, time, and volatility have changed.

Greeks Change With Every Market Move -- Check Them Daily

The Greeks displayed in the Sensibull panel at 9:30 AM are not the same as the Greeks at 3:00 PM if the underlying has moved significantly. Delta, gamma, and vega all change as the underlying moves (delta from gamma, vega from the underlying's distance from the strike). Theta changes as another day passes. Check the Greeks Panel at the three monitoring windows from Topic 9.12 (9:30 AM, 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM) to verify that the portfolio's risk profile has not shifted significantly from the intended structure. An iron condor that opened with balanced delta may have developed a large negative delta by midday if Nifty has rallied strongly toward the upper short call strike.

Set Greeks Panel Alerts for Delta Threshold Breaches

Configure Sensibull alerts for portfolio delta breaches: an alert when portfolio delta exceeds +2.0 (signals aggressive bullish exposure requiring review) or falls below -2.0 (aggressive bearish exposure). These alert thresholds correspond to the portfolio heat guideline from Topic 8.15 -- when delta exceeds the threshold, the portfolio may have accumulated more directional risk than intended.
