Introductory Context
"This topic provides a working guide to Angel One's options trading platform for traders who use Angel One as their primary or secondary broker. The focus is on the options-specific workflows: accessing the option chain, placing orders, managing GTT stops, and using Angel One's integrated analytics tools. "
Angel One Platform Overview - Web and App
Angel One offers two primary interfaces. The Angel One App (iOS and Android) is a full-featured mobile platform with charting, option chain access, order placement, and portfolio management -- unusual among Indian brokers in that the mobile app is genuinely full-featured rather than a reduced-capability version of the web platform. The Smart Trading web platform (smartapi.angelbroking.com or the Angel One web portal) provides the complete feature set for desktop users with additional analytical tools.
For options traders following this curriculum, the Angel One web platform provides: a full option chain with OI, Change in OI, IV, Greeks, and Max Pain (displayed natively without requiring Sensibull separately), integrated charting powered by TradingView (same as Upstox), GTT order capability, and Angel One's proprietary ARQ Prime (AI-based investment recommendation system) which can be used for additional analytical context. The SmartConnect feature links Angel One accounts to third-party platforms including Sensibull for enhanced options analytics.
Angel One Option Chain - Native Max Pain and IV Analysis
Angel One's native option chain (accessible from the Market section, under F&O → Option Chain, or directly by searching for the index) displays Max Pain, PCR (Put-Call Ratio), and IV Percentile natively -- without requiring a third-party tool. For each expiry, the option chain shows Max Pain at the top of the screen with a dynamic update as OI changes during the session.
The IV Percentile display is particularly useful for the VIX-based strategy selection from Topics 8.12 and 9.9: IV Percentile shows where the current implied volatility stands relative to its one-year range. IV Percentile below 30 means IV is in the lower 30 percent of its one-year range -- historically cheap options, ideal for buying strategies (Long Straddle, long directional options). IV Percentile above 70 means IV is elevated -- ideal for spreading strategies rather than single-leg buying. This metric provides the same information as comparing VIX to its historical average but is more precise because it is specific to each instrument rather than the broad India VIX.
Angel One's NIFTY Options Analytics Panel
Angel One's web platform includes an integrated Options Analytics panel accessible from any index option page. The panel displays: Gamma Exposure (net gamma across all strikes for the current expiry, indicating the potential for explosive moves when the underlying crosses high-gamma strike zones), Put-Call Ratio trend, IV surface (implied volatility across strikes and expiries displayed as a three-dimensional surface), and OI heat map (visual representation of OI distribution across strikes). These analytics, available natively on Angel One, require third-party tools or separate calculations on Zerodha Kite.
Placing Options Orders on Angel One
Order placement on Angel One follows the same fundamental structure as Kite and Upstox Pro. From the option chain or the Market Watch, click Buy or Sell on the target contract. The order form fields: Instrument (auto-populated), Quantity (in units -- same rule: 1 Nifty lot = 75 units), Order Type (Limit is mandatory for options -- see Topic 10.9), Price (limit price), Product (Delivery for overnight, Intraday for same-session MIS positions), and Validity (Day or IOC). One useful Angel One feature: the 'Order Preview' button shows the estimated total cost (premium + all charges) before confirmation. Use this preview to verify that the total outlay is within the 2 percent position sizing limit before clicking the final confirmation.
Angel One's Smart Order feature -- available in the app and web platform -- allows setting bracket orders and cover orders for F&O positions. A bracket order simultaneously places the entry order, a target limit order, and a stop-loss order as a linked set. If any one of the three executes, the others are automatically cancelled. For options traders using the curriculum's entry-target-stop framework, bracket orders provide a fully automated implementation: enter the position and immediately have both the target exit and the stop exit pre-placed without manual GTT setup. Note that bracket orders are intraday only (cannot be held overnight) -- for overnight positions, the GTT mechanism remains the appropriate stop management tool.
GTT Orders on Angel One - Good Till Triggered
Angel One's GTT order system is accessible from the Positions tab (three-dot menu → GTT) or from the Orders section (GTT orders tab → New GTT). The Angel One GTT system supports: Single trigger (exit when the option LTP hits a single trigger price), OCO (One Cancels Other -- simultaneous target and stop, where hitting either cancels the other). For stop-loss management on overnight options positions, set a Single trigger GTT with the trigger price at your defined stop level and a sell order for the full position quantity.
A distinctive feature of Angel One's GTT: the system sends a push notification both when the GTT order is placed (confirmation) and when it is triggered (execution alert). This notification system ensures that even during a session where you are away from the screen, a triggered stop is immediately visible on the mobile app. Verify push notifications are enabled in the Angel One app settings for GTT alerts specifically.
Angel One's Auto Square-Off Time for Intraday Positions
Angel One auto squares off intraday (Intraday product) F&O positions at approximately 3:20 PM. This is five minutes later than Upstox's 3:15 PM but ten minutes before Zerodha's approximate 3:30 PM closing. If you hold positions using the Intraday product type on Angel One, they will be automatically squared off at 3:20 PM at prevailing market prices. Always use the Delivery product type for overnight positions to avoid unexpected auto square-off.
Angel One's Option Selector Tool for Strike and Expiry Selection
Angel One's web platform includes an 'Option Selector' tool under the F&O section that assists with strike and expiry selection. Input your market view (bullish/bearish/neutral), expected target level, expected time frame (in days), and the tool suggests strikes and expiries based on the current option chain data. While this tool does not replace the eight-step pre-trade checklist, it provides a useful secondary check to confirm that the strike and expiry selected in Step 8 are consistent with what the option chain data suggests for the specified scenario.
